A Big Warm Welcome!!

Harare International Conference Centre, November 2010

The Scripture Union in Zimbabwe is an interdenominational organisation of all churches that believe in the Bible. Drawing members across all age groups, it operates in all ten provinces and in sixty percent of Zimbabwe schools. The Union emphasizes that it is a bible based club and not church indoctrinated. At Mabelreign Girls High the Union has a membership of eighty three girls.

The club to date has held campaigns to clean classrooms, halls and hosted the ‘think, pray, act’ inviting many schools from Harare. The club helps girls find out who they are, find themselves, encourage exploring into gifting and talents eventually producing singers, preachers, prayer
intercessors, dancers, dramatists and poets.

The Scripture Union Choir was formed in 2009 after identifying many singing groups who were later coopted to form one big choir with a wide range of music. The choir has 33 member st the moment. To date we have recorded and launched our album titled "MBEU" in english meaning seed. The album has attracted so much interest in the school and has 12 tracks. we recorded at Shelter Studios using our membership contributions, demo CD sales and doantions from Miss Daud, our patron. The CD is currently played on Radio Zimbabwe and Power FM. Popular songs on the CD are Tinomutenda Nei, Halleluya, Makanaka and Nhovo. Makanaka has three themes, traditional, Netball mix and a studio version..

Having launched the CD has motivated the girls, making them feel thay have achieved something with their personal livesand has elevated their status in the school and their respective communities where they come from. The choir has actually attracted more member this year with our inaugral meeting attendend by 83 girls..

We also had a tour withing Harare late 2010. We went around entertaining patrons at all Harare Nandos Outlets during the festive season. We got the chance to record Christmas Carols, perfect our performances to the public and actually got new booking for weddings and other social events. Nandos promised to make a donation to the school.

In 2011 we want to do a DVD for the whole album so planning has already started and we hope to conclude everything by April to launch it for Easter.

As part of the Scripture Union in Zimbabwe, we understand that there is HIV & AIDS as well as gender issues. Our stance is to ephasize respect for one another and abstinence. In most cases our proceeds from commecial activities are sent to ophanages for fees payment and upkeep of the beneficiaries. We also make rounds in the ophanages making prayers. God Bless us all
